It's obviously LoL accounts not uncommon for fan projects to be closed down by large companies aiming to secure their IP. In 2016 and 2017, Blizzard similarly shut down World Of Warcraft legacy servers, with Blizzard later stating there was"no clear legal path to protect Blizzard's IP and grant an operating permit to a pirate server" They also of course launched World Of Warcraft Classic themselves in 2019.

Riot last commented about the notion of making a"Classic Mode" for League Of Legends four decades back, concluding that it would be difficult and"that there is an excellent chance it's not worth the development effort it would require."

Riot tried to take down a League of Legends enthusiast project in the worst manner possible

Riot Games is threatening League of Legends enthusiast project Chronoshift with legal action over its effort at a heritage server for the game. That is after Riot reportedly sent one of its security staff, called Zed, following Chronoshift's developer, in an exchange that was leaked online and moved viral on social media.

Chronoshift's developer intended to remake an older version of League of Legends, as if it was still the exact same game it was 10 years back -- along the same lines as World of Warcraft Classic. Very little, if anything, is different from this time frame in League of Legends today. Much like the Ship of Theseus, the continuous patches, updates, and visual reworks at League of Legends have removed old champions and mechanics entirely. A Riot employee initially achieved to League of Legends Accounts the Chronoshift developer a year ago, by way of a comment on Reddit, asking the development team not to proceed forward with the project.
