On Saturday, Vancouver Canucks head coach John Tortorella made his Phillip Lindsay Jersey return to Madison Square Garden to face his former team, the New York Rangers. For Tortorella, the potentially contentious reunion didn't quite go as planned, as Vancouver fell to the Blueshirts, 5-2.Last season, one of the NHL's most controversial figures was the head coach for the Rangers. Coming into the lockout-shortened 2013-2014 season, expectations were sky-high for a team with a lot of talent, but after a disappointing second round playoff exit at the hands of the Boston Bruins, the Rangers' front office chose to fire their outspoken leader."Torts" was Marlon Mack Jersey quickly snatched up by the Vancouver Canucks in the offseason, and in an ironic swap of sorts, the Rangers opted to hire former Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault. Much like Tortorella, Vigneault was fired from a talented team that had consistently underachieved during the playoffs. The main focus today, as usual, was on the man that is now behind the Vancouver bench. When asked about how he would approach this game, the consistently abrasive coach told reporters, "I am going to coach this game, hopefully kick their a s and get out of here.""I don't think you ever sever (ties)," he continued. "Some of the most important things when you're all said and done Nico Collins Jersey with the game -- coaching, playing, whatever -- are the relationships. So, I don't think you ever totally sever it, but when you're in the middle of things and you're 30 games into it with another team, I think it's Jimmy Morrissey Jersey time to sever it."With pa sionate remarks like that, it seemed entirely po sible that Tortorella's agre sive antics might be on full-display.Instead, this game became all about the Chris Kreider show. The Rangers forward scored the game's first two goals in the first period, and would go on to complete his hat trick halfway through the third period on a nifty tip-in.By the end of the afternoon, the Canucks had finally gotten through a tough beating handed out by a Rangers team that finally got over the .500 mark with the win. As the final minutes ticked off the clock, Rangers fans began mockingly chanting "Tor-tor-ella." You can say Garret Wallow Jersey what you want about Tortorella, but he sure does make things interesting.
