This is the fourth and final installment of our project, which has visually broken downeach team's po se sion so as to identify who's most responsible and who's just hopping along for the ride.This time the focus is on Western Conference defensemen; they're divided intothree tiers based on their five-on-five ice-time this past regular season, then compared to their team as a whole. The po se sion proxy used is zone-adjusted cors; that's thetypical shot attempt differential you'reaccustomed to with a wrinkle;everything that happened within 10 seconds of an offensive or defensive zone faceoff has been wiped from the total. Cody Conway Jersey CALGARY FLAMESThis would've been the most remarkable chart of the bunch had Mark Giordanowound up joining TJ Brodie in Tier 1. But Giordano mi sed too much time, sothe wealth was spread amongst the top two tiers. The disparity between Giordano, Brodieand the other four most regularly used members of the Flames blueline sure is something, though. Both Giordano and Brodie were comfortably above the50% plateau (53.7% and 51.8% respectively); the other 4 defensemen were all below 45%.Purely based on value and relative excellence, it's hard to fathom that Giordano couldn't find a spot for himself in the top 10 of Norris Trophy. It's understandable that voters were gun shy based on Giordano having mi sed 18 games and likely more prevalently, his team not being all that good but here's some perspective on what he meant to his team:The Flames at 5v5 with Giordano: 1141 minutes, 1042 shot attempts for, 912 shot attempts against.The Flames at 5v5 without Giordano: 2852 minutes, 2278 shot attempts for, 2936 shot attempts against.That means that they were +130 with him and -658 without him. For the second straight year, Joel Quenneville wisely allocated the minutes for his defensemen, easing the burden on the Keith/Seabrook pairing by handing over the shutdown duties to Hjalmar son and Oduya instead. Alexander Johnson Jersey Keith is a fine player and no one should really spend too much time getting worked up over individual awards because they're largely subjective and don't mean much in the grand scheme of Peyton Manning T Shirts things but dubbing him the top all-around defenseman in the league issilly. It's easy to see how some may have concluded this, though; they likelysorted all defensemen by points, saw Keith's 61 points only trumped by Erik Karl son's 74 (!!), and then saw his plus-22 compared to the minus-15 next to the Senators defenseman's name.
